‘My dad’s lucky to be alive’ says Bonnybridge teen

Ross Cameron visits the site of his dad's near-death experience

Ross Cameron visits the site of his dad's near-death experience

A dad-of-three is recovering after he was trapped under a tree which fell during last week’s gales.

Robert Cameron is lucky to be alive after Thursday’s lunchtime accident, which occurred as the country was battered by hurricane-force winds.

The garage boss was dealing with a customer’s car when the huge tree was toppled in the high winds.

Although the vehicle owner managed to leap to safety, Robert (45) was trapped under the branches.

He was eventually freed by the emergency services and rushed to Forth Valley Royal Hospital at Larbert.

The following day he underwent surgery to put pins and a plate into his leg which was broken in three places.

His son Ross (18), who works alongside his dad at Mill Garage in Bridge Street, Bonnybridge, witnessed the horror.

He told the Herald: “I really thought he was dead. It was one of those horrible moments.”
