Murdered teacher was from Larbert

Police make appeal after brutal death

A CONVICTED sex offender found gruesomely murdered in Edinburgh grew up in Falkirk district.

Alan Wilson (51) lived in Main Street, Larbert, and was a pupil at Larbert High School until he left in 1968.

His dismembered body was discovered in the garden area behind an Edinburgh tenement on Tuesday morning, sparking a murder probe by Lothian and Borders Police.

The former history teacher was jailed for 18 months in May, 2000, for abusing three teenage pupils over a five-year period.

Last night his parents - Turner and Helen, who still live in Falkirk district - declined to comment. Friends of the frail couple were stunned at the news.

A source said: "He was born and brought up in Main Street, Larbert. It must be a terrible time for the family.

"His parents must be absolutely distraught. He must have really broken their hearts in the last four or five years."

It is understood Wilson's body had been cut up, placed in bin bags and then dumped in a garden. The divorced father-of-two lived in the North Bridge area of Edinburgh.

A former teacher at James Gillespie's High School, Edinburgh, he was caged in 2000 after being found guilty of eight sex assaults on three teenage boys aged 16 and 17 between March 1994 and September 1999.

The officer leading the murder investigation, Detective Superintendent Bert Swanson of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "It's brutal and distressing, particularly for the relatives, for them to realise that their beloved person - someone they love dearly - has been found in such a way."

Police are probing relationships which Wilson maintained with offenders he met while serving his sentence in Saughton Prison.

Enquiries are continuing into the murder and anyone with any information is

asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 662 5000.
