A cancer sufferer has lost her battle with the disease before she could enjoy the holiday-to-remember friends and family raised money for.

Brave Jane McGuire (42) passed away in Strathcarron Hospice last Friday evening after a courageous four-year fight.

The popular mum from Denny was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago and beat it. But it returned and quickly reached an advanced stage.

The youngest of the family, her five sisters and one brother organised a sponsored walk along the Union Canal last month raising more than £5000 to send her and her five-year-old son Ramone on holiday and raise money for cancer charities.

A talented artist, Jane was in the process of deciding on a destination when her condition worsened two weeks ago, forcing her into hospital.

Her sister, Catherine Dickson (50), said: “She passed away with her family and friends around her.

“Jane was colourful, artistic, clever and full of life, even until the end. She wanted me to take her to the pub for one last wee drink and a laugh before she went.

“She loved to enjoy herself and loved her boy Ramone more than life itself. She was very brave and battled her cancer right to the end. We will all miss her terribly.”

The family would like to thank everyone who helped make the fundraising day, and other events, such a success.

Mrs Dickson added: “We never really got the chance to thank people for everything they did - the Commercial Inn in Larbert, John and Sandra who supplied the boat on the day, Denny Co-op, everyone who came along, all family and friends and colleagues at the CSA.

“We’d also like to thank all the staff from Strathcarron Hospice and Forth Valley Royal who took such good care of Jane. Nothing was ever too much.”

Mrs Dickson and her family are now taking care of Ramone who will go on the holiday his mother could not.

Money will also go to the Driving Force, Strathcarron Hospice and Breakthrough Breast Cancer charities.

Jane’s funeral is being held today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at St Alexander’s RC Church in Denny. She will be buried in Dunipace Cemetery followed by a celebration of her life at The Songbird Bar, Dunipace.
