Maddiston pensioners in plea to vandals
The latest spate of vandalism left a window smashed
A pensioners’ group is pleading for youngsters to stop vandalising its hall.
Members of Maddiston Old Folk’s Association say the cost of repairing the premises in the village’s Main Road is putting its future at risk.
The hall has been vandalised several times in the past year, while the group also had to shell out £10,000 for a replacement roof.
One member said: “We are self-sufficient so all the costs have to be met by us and they are killing us just now.
“They’re even tearing parts of the new roof off now. We’ve had broken windows and smashed lights. It’s very unfair and very expensive for us. If it doesn’t stop the hall could close.”
Police say they have extended patrols around the area and reported an 11-year-old boy to the Childrens Reporter following an incident on the weekend of April 13.
Sgt Kerri Marshall said: “As a result of a police investigation into this crime an 11-year-old youth is the subject of a police report to the Children’s Reporter.
“Police are patrolling on a regular basis and we would ask members of the public who observe any person acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the Old Folk’s Hall to contact us. The assistance of the community is always greatly appreciated.”
