Laurieston barbershop pair want you to give moustache a bash

All wonderful styles of moustache a group of gents from the Laurieston area will have to choose from as they embark on a novel fundraising campaign next month.
The month of November has been overtaken by ‘Movember’ – a time of year when men grow silly moustaches to raise money and awareness of men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer, two forms of the deadly disease associated exclusively with men.
Ross Carter (33) from Airth, who owns and operates a barber shop in Mary Street, Laurieston, has recruited a group of Mo Bro’s who, from November 1, will embrace the Movember spirit and sprout hairy lips for the cause.
Father-of-two Ross said: “We wanted to do it last year for a laugh, but didn’t. So this year we are determined to grow some silly moustaches for Movember.
“Being a barber means I can trim everyone’s efforts for a small donation and maybe get a wee bit creative with the styles if the guys will let me.
“To be honest, I’ll take whatever one I can grow because my facial growth is quite slow so it’ll take me ages to get anything.”
Ross said his Mo Bro’s have been looking through the Moustache Growers Guide sent out by the Movember organisers ... and there are some beauties in there.
“My colleague Alan Bow is going for the ‘musketeer’, while others have been looking at the Super Mario. It should be a lot of fun,” he added.
“Everyone knows someone who has suffered from cancer. It’s a disease no one wants.
“But we think we’ll have a lot of fun and hopefully my customers will get right behind it. We’ve had a lot of support so far.”
Money raised during ‘Movember’ is given to Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute of Cancer Research to support a range of programmes raising awareness of the cancers and research into their treatment.
Last year Movember raised just under £80 million and a spokeswoman said: “This is a grassroots movement led by its communities, this support is vital to the success of the campaign.
“As usual at this time of year we look forward to the sprouting of moustaches across the UK, all in the name of men’s health.”
