Kyra joins the stars in new Scottish drama
Kyra Fyvie was an extra in a new blockbuster
A schoolgirl swapped the classroom for a film set last week after winning a role in a Hollywood blockbuster.
Kyra Fyvie was chosen to be an extra in ‘The Railway Man’, which stars Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth.
The 10-year-old spent a day filming at Perth Railway station.
Mum Corrine said: “Kyra was going to classes with the UK Theatre School in Glasgow and got the option to sign with a casting agency.
“We had to stop the classes because the travelling was too much but she stayed in the agency.
“A few weeks ago they phoned to say Kyra had been chosen to be an extra in this film. It was completely unexpected, like a bolt out of the blue.”
Kyra travelled to Perth early last Tuesday morning with her mum and spent the whole day on the set.
A primary six pupil at Stenhousemuir Primary, she said: “I was really excited about doing the filming. I had to go on the train with a boy and a lady who was our gran.
“We had to pretend that we were on holiday, and when we got off the train we had to hug our ‘Grandad’ as if we hadn’t seen him in a long time.
“Nicole Kidman was walking off the train behind us, and we were walking towards Colin Firth.
“It took 31 takes to get it right!”
Away from the film set, Kyra is a keen performer. She dances with Stenhouse School of Dance and is a member of Falkirk Children’s and Youth Theatre.
‘The Railway Man’ tells the true story of Scottish soldier Eric Lomax (Colin Firth) who comes from Edinburgh and lives in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
A lieutenant in the Royal Corps of Signals, he was captured by the Japanese after the fall of Singapore in 1942 and, along with thousands of other prisoners-of-war, was forced to work on the notorious Burma-Siam railway.
On his return home he was haunted by the trauma he had endured, and it is down to his wife, played by Nicole Kidman, to help him overcome it.
The stars of the £12 million film, due for release next summer, also filmed scenes at the Scottish Railway Preservation Society’s base in Bo’ness.
