The family of a Grangemouth man caught up in the Algerian siege hope he comes home safely.

Their plea comes as BP has said the situation in Algeria remains unclear.

The company is continuing to seek updates from authorities following the military raid on the In Amenas plant following the siege by Al-Qaeda-linked militants on Wednesday.

In a statement BP said it’s priority was the “safety and security of our people”.

This includes Mark Grant (29), from Grangemouth, who sources have said has been freed but this has still to be officially confirmed.

Today his sister-in-law Sabrina Johnston said: “We just want him home safe.”

BP mobilise its full emergency response system, with teams on the ground in Algeria and in the UK liaising with others.

A spokesman said: “We are in close contact with the UK government and colleagues. There is a small number of BP employees at In Amenas whose current location and situation remain uncertain. BP is working with the Algerian government and authorities to confirm their status.”

Declining to comment on number or identify staff involved, he added the company was in contact with the families of those affected, offering support and providing information as it was confirmed.

Bob Dudley, BP Group chief executive said: “Supporting our colleagues and their families at a time of such extreme concern is essential and we are seeking to support them in every way we can.”

Overnight BP began the staged process of bringing non-essential workers out of Algeria as a precautionary and temporary measure.
