Doctors and nurses are learning new skills at a state of the art training facility at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert.

The ‘classroom’ with a fully equipped accident and emergency unit, treatment room and ward just like the real thing also has a ‘family’ of robot patients including Stan and Reg who all can be given various medical emergencies for staff to treat.

Health secretary Alex Neil visited the Scottish Clinical Simulation Centre today and shown around by its director Dr Michael Moneypenny.

The secretary said: “Stan, Reg and the rest are brilliant. Reg was even able to tell me how he was feeling! We had a good chat and I’m glad to hear he was being treated well.

“Our NHS is moving with the times and taking advantage of new technologies so we can provide the best care ever for patients. Scotland has some of the safest hospitals in the world and these new training techniques will make them even safer.”

Dr Moneypenny said: “The centre is focussed on improving patient safety using simulation-based education. Feedback from staff who have completed the course has been extremely positive.”
