Green light for road project

CASH for long-awaited road improvements at Larbert has finally been confirmed.

The £2.75 million Glenbervie slip road project has been years in the planning stage.

It was seen as a necessary development in the transport infrastructure after the go-ahead to build Forth Valley Royal hospital on the former Royal Scottish National Hospital site.

The scheme will see upgrading of the junction between the A9 and M876 to a four-way interchange and is expected to improve direct accessibility to the motorway and the Clackmannanshire Bridge from Larbert.

Welcoming the project, Falkirk Council leader Councillor Craig Martin, said: “The introduction of the new scheme will help us to reduce significant levels of traffic from the local road network and will provide a better infrastructure for access to and from the new hospital, as well as for residents and businesses.

“We are confident that there will be a reduction in the number of accidents, costs to drivers and hauliers and lower our greenhouse gas emissions.”

Tenders are expected to be issued in June this year with construction beginning in September. The road should be open to traffic by March next year.
