Grangemouth incinerator plan sparks new fears
RESIDENTS fear a proposed multi-million pound biomass plant – and incinerator – will bring more problems than benefits.
Leith-based Forth Energy plans to build a renewable energy plant at Grangemouth docks near the Asda superstore. The plant, one of four proposed builds at Scottish ports in a 1.7 billion investment, will cover 15 acres of dockland and be situated 200 metres away from the nearest houses.
It will consist of a boiler hall, flue, flue store and cooling equipment. The estimated heights are 100 metres (330 ft) for the flue, 65 metres (215 ft) for the boiler hall and 125 metres (412 ft) for the wind turbines.
It is hoped the development – a joint venture between Forth Ports and Scottish and Southern Energy – will benefit the town and the wider area, generating enough electricity to meet 92 per cent of the needs of the Falkirk District.
