Grangemouth hauliers to close depot
Petrol tanker drivers were stunned when managers told them they were losing their jobs this week - then asked them to go out and deliver their loads.
According to Unite the Union rep Tony Trench, Norbert Dentressangle Tankers, which provides deliveries to Tesco petrol pumps, will be closing down its Grangemouth depot in March, with six drivers, some who have worked for the firm for 18 years, losing their jobs.
One furious worker stated: “They told us this completely out of the blue then asked us to go out and drive the tankers, which can carry up to 40,000 litres of flammable fuel, as if nothing had happened.
“One of the drivers had to take a delivery to the new Tesco store in Camelon after he had just been told he had lost his job.”
Mr Trench called the move a “cost cutting exercise” and said management and the unions were currently entering into consultation over the announcement.
Unite will be holding a mass meeting with all drivers on Sunday.
The full story will appear in the March 8 edition of The Falkirk Herald.
