Former church turned into pub

40 new jobs created

A building in Falkirk which has been home to a church and a picture house is now set to become a watering hole.

Pub operator JD Wetherspoon has spent the past five months and 1.1 million turning the building in Bank Street into The Carron Works, which will open its doors for the first time on July 8.

A total of 40 new full and part-time jobs have been created at the pub, which will be managed by Graeme Barnes.

Mr Barnes said: "I'm looking forward to welcoming people into the pub, and I'm confident that they will be impressed with the transformation of the former church."

Paintings

The Carron Works will be totally music-free, have a ban on pool tables, and approximately one-third of the customer area will be designated as non-smoking. There will also be wheelchair access and a specially adapted toilet for customers with disabilities.

Paintings, photos and text relating to the history and characters of the area, together with specially commissioned artwork, will be displayed in the pub, which will serve a full menu at all times.

Mr Barnes added that he believed The Carron Works would be "a great addition to Falkirk".
