Commuters were hit as the first heavy snow of the winter fell at rush-hour today.

Met Office predictations of blizzard conditions for most of Scotland were proved right with the downfall beginning around 6.30 a.m. in Falkirk district.

Motorists appeared to be prepared for the conditions and gritters were quickly out to ensure the main routes were cleared.

There have been no reports of any schools being closed.

However, forecasters have warned this could turn to heavy rain by the end of the day.
