Flood warning for Central Scotland

SEPA has issued a flood alert due to the high level of rainfall.

The environmental watchdog is warning people to take care on roads throughout the region as “quick” and “heavy” rainfall could cause localised flooding.

Heavy and slow moving showers may affect the area during Wednesday, but they are expected to subside by Thursday morning.

SEPA officials are concerned travel in particular could be affected if the heaviest rain falls in urban areas, while flooding from small watercourses and rapidly responding rivers may also occur.

A SEPA spokeswoman said: “Due to the showery nature of the rainfall, it is difficult to predict which areas are most at risk, however, the overall risk is expected to decline during the early hours of Thursday morning.

“Members of the public are advised to check the Traffic Scotland website before travelling. SEPA will monitor the situation closely and provide further information when available.”

SEPA is advising the public to remain vigilant. For more information call Floodline on 0845 988 1188 or visit the website website
