Falkirk’s pride in keeping clean pays off

Falkirk town centre has been praised for its cleanliness by an environmental charity.

Keep Scotland Beautiful surveyed 36 separate sites around the town and found that 91 per cent of them were at an acceptable standard.

Graffiti was present in only two per cent of locations, down from 14 per cent in previous years.

The inspection was commissioned by the Falkirk BID as part of its ‘Take a Pride’ campaign.

It revealed that the most common type of litter found in the town is cigarette butts, and that trade waste was increasing - something the BID team now plans to tackle.

Chairwoman Corrie Cuthbertson said: “It’s great to see that our efforts from regular clean-ups are encouraging people to take a pride in the town centre.

“Over the next five years we will be continuing our litter work and also plan to employ our own weed controller to complement the work of council staff.”

Donna Wilson of Keep Scotland Beautiful added: “Despite high cleanliness levels being recorded this year, litter is an ongoing battle that we all need to work hard to reduce, and I would urge everyone to do their bit and use the bins provided.”
