Falkirk's planning system is all over the place

FALKIRK'S planning system has come in for scathing criticism.

Former council leader David Alexander insists process in the area is 'all over the place'' and believes that policies are not being

followed.

Since June last year, 13 planning applications have been granted which

are contrary to the Falkirk Council local plan.

Work began on the draft local plan in 2008, and it was officially approved by a Scottish government reporter in June 2010 and adopted by Falkirk Council in December.

So far its creation has cost the council over 800,000.

SNP leader Councillor Alexander said: "It's not a criticism of officers but it's a criticism of the committee.

"Our view is that there may well be exceptions and extreme circumstances – we're not saying that it's set in tablets of stone."
