Falkirk residents shocked by the meter man

Terrified residents were shocked when a man barged into their properties ... to read the meter.
People living in blocks of flats in Glynwed Court, Falkirk, had the unexpected visitor at tea-time on Wednesday, March 6.
The man, who was contracted by ScottishPower to read the electricity meters, is alleged have broken the locks on the controlled entry system doors in two of the blocks.
One resident said she was terrified by the experience, adding another neighbour suffered an angina attack following the incident.
The woman, who declined to be named, said: “I was in the house when the intercom went and a voice said ‘ScottishPower can you buzz me in’. But before I could do anything, the door burst open.
“We’d had a few problems with that outside door recently so I was going down to let him in and had opened the flat door.
“Next thing I knew he rushed into the flat. I was so shocked and panicked that I dashed into the kitchen.
‘‘However, he looked at the meter that was in the hall next to the front door and left.”
She added that there had been no prior warning of the visit or any letter saying entry to read the meter was required.
A spokesperson for landlords Link said in incidents like this they would always advise residents to contact the police as criminal damage may have been caused.
ScottishPower’s spokes-woman said: “We are currently investigating this matter and cannot comment further at this time.”
A spokesman for Central Scotland Police confirmed enquiries were continuing into an alleged incident of damage to property.
