Falkirk pensioner flies high in chopper heart stopper
TAKING control of a helicopter for the first time is not something that many pensioners would attempt.
But, for one local lady, it was an unforgettable experience that she was excited to take on.
Cathy Cheape (76), a resident at Carrondale Nursing Home in Carron, took to the skies as the co-pilot of a helicopter yesterday (Wednesday) as part of a scheme introduced by staff at the home.
She was joined for take off from Cumbernauld Airport by daughter Jennifer (51), who is a carer at Carrondale, and the home's senior carer, Ellie Robertson (42).
And for Cathy, who has been a resident for three and a half years, taking flight was an experience which left her feeling "over the moon".
She said: "It was my first time in a helicopter and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The views were just gorgeous as we flew over The Falkirk Wheel and the nursing home, where a lot of people were out waving up to us.
"It was a great experience and I would do it again."
