Falkirk is ready for the future

Falkirk’s town centre has three reasons to be cheerful this week after major investments and plans were announced.

Historic Scotland awarded Falkirk Council £1.6 million - the largest grant in Scotland - to fund a makeover of the area to promote economic growth and preserve its historical past.

Yesterday (Wednesday) council planners gave the go ahead for a new KFC fast food outlet and drive-through at the old Tesco petrol station in Callendar Road which will create jobs and use up part of a dilapidated site that has caused economic concern for the past three years.

Councillors have also announced plans to transform the commercial heart of the town with the help of retailers, shoppers, academics and developers through a radical new inititive.

Convener of economic strategy and development Councillor Dennis Goldie said: “Falkirk’s town centre has a celebrated historical past and it’s our vision to ensure that it is preserved and, wherever possible, improved. This is terrific news for Falkirk.”
