London 2012 Olympic Torch

On the eve of the Olympic Games, Falkirk is preparing to join in the celebrations marking the greatest show in the world.

Pupils from two local primary schools will play their part in history as members of the Guard of Honour at the opening ceremony on Friday.

Children from Hallglen and Airth will be among 2000 youngsters who will line the route as athletes make their way through the Olympic Park into the Olympic Stadium.

At home, church bells will ring out, joining others across the country in welcoming the start of the Games.

At 8.12 a.m. they will sound at the Kirk of the Holy Rood in Grangemouth, St Francis Xavier in Falkirk and at Larbert East Church to herald the beginning of the London 2012 event.

The public are also invited to ring bells at the same time, whether it be schools bells, bicycle bells or door bells.

Later in the day, families are invited to Falkirk’s very own opening ceremony at Grangemouth Stadium hosted by Falkirk Community Trust.

Activities will include Olympic challenges, a balloon launch, face-painting and much more.
