Falkirk bus firm delighted by contract boost

BUS workers celebrated the news their jobs were secure after Alexander Dennis won a massive contract to build green buses for the Stagecoach company.

The Camelon coachbuilders will deliver around 200 of the 340 new buses ordered by the transport group in a 50 million deal.

Last year, the 900 workers were placed on short-time working in an attempt to avoid further redundancies following the 200 jobs shed in 2008.

Yesterday (Wednesday), a company spokesman said although the latest addition to the order book was very welcome, times were still extremely tough in the UK bus market.

Bill Simpson, Alexander Dennis' corporate affairs director, said: "This is very good news. We have a long and strong relationship with Stagecoach and we are absolutely delighted to have their business for this year and next."
