Drugs warning to drivers after Falkirk Cruise

A warning on the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs was issued by police.

It followed an arrest at the Falkirk Cruise last Thursday.

Over 19 offences were detected, including one where a 23-year-old passenger was reported under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Sergeant Roddy MacMillan said: “There is an emerging profile of young drivers and their passengers using drugs and being involved in serious or fatal collisions. This is a primary focus for the road crime team and there will not be any second chances for anybody caught.”

Three people were given fixed penalties for offences including no MOT, no number plate and illegal tints on car windows.

A 34-year-old was reported to the Procurator Fiscal for serious defects, including a tyre that was so badly worn the cord was exposed.

One other didn’t have road tax and 11 people were given time to have their defects repaired.

Anti-social behaviour orders were issued to two motorists after members of the public were distressed by the way they were driving.

The sergeant added: “Their driving manner fell below what is expected of a competent and careful driver – one of them had only passed his test within the previous six months. If they re-offend within a year they will have their vehicle, or any other they are driving, seized.

“We will continue to police future cruises to ensure the law is adhered to and the safety of other road users is not compromised by unroadworthy vehicles.”
