Denny prepares to greet hundreds of music-lovers

California has Coachella, Balado has T in the Park and now Denny can also boast its own musical extravaganza.

Dennycassim will take over a field on the outskirts of the town from August 27-28 for Stirlingshire’s only camping festival.

Organised by Tommy Hamilton and Gary Neil, the ambitious event will see 600 music-lovers descend upon Auchenbowie Mains Farm, on the road from Denny to Stirling.

Dennycassim was held unofficially last summer in the grounds of a pub but this year the duo have their sights set on bigger things.

Denny man Tommy said: “It’s been a massive learning curve for us.

“We had no idea how much work would be involved – dealing with the police, fire brigade and council – but it will all be worth it for the festival.”

Tommy runs Bulge Music Promotions, putting on nights all around central Scotland, but this is the biggest event he’s ever contemplated.

Dennycassim – a play on the popular Spanish festival Bennicassim – will feature two stages, a fully stocked bar, food vendors and a campsite.

Tommy continued: “Just now Denny seems to be in the press a lot for the negative aspects of the town – the Church Walk monstrosity and the Carbuncle Award – but this is something for us to be proud of.

“We have dozens of great bands playing and around 70 per cent of the tickets are sold already. It’s going to be amazing.

“Everyone is really excited about it and there is a great buzz. We are pretty chuffed with the line-up and Dennycassim must be the cheapest camping festival in the country.”

Bands including Johnny and the Giros – who Gary plays with – Selective Service, The Ray Summers and the Mix Ups will star and the second stage will feature acoustic music before turning into a dance arena.

Tommy said: “We want to do this properly. Too many festivals try to expand too quickly and they make huge losses.

“We are trying to be careful and make sure that Dennycassim can go the distance.

“We are determined that this will be the first official festival of many – maybe one day people will say Dennycassim in the same breath as T in the Park and Rockness.”

The organisers are currently looking for vendors to run stalls at the festival. E-mail enquiries@ dennycassimfestival.co.uk for more information.

Tickets for Dennycassim cost £35 and are available from.ticketweb.co.uk.
