Paramedics battled in vain to save Tam Gourlay after he collapsed at his sons funeral in Falkirk Crematorium

A distraught dad collapsed and died as he attended his son’s funeral.

Grieving family and friends looked on in horror as paramedics battled to save Tam Gourlay (62).

He was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital, but despite the efforts of medics, the father-of-three was pronounced dead.

Mr Gourlay, of Lamond View, Stenhousemuir, had been at Falkirk Crematorium on December 22 for the funeral of his son Gregg (43), who died in the Larbert hospital a week earlier.

Gregg’s widow Maureen (42) said the double tragedy had been “horrendous” for the entire family.

Along with children Jenna (15) and Dean (11), she had just entered the crematorium when her father-in-law keeled over.

She said: “We were just taking our seats when it happened. He was right in front of us when he collapsed.

“A lot of people tried to help him and others called for an ambulance, but sadly he didn’t make it.”

The service eventually went ahead, but later shocked mourners heard of the second tragedy.

Mr Gourlay senior’s funeral was held at the crematorium on Hogmanay.
