Council take burgers off the menu in all Falkirk schools
Burgers have been taken off the menu by Falkirk Council.
The withdrawal from schools and other council-run catering establishments comes as North Lanarkshire Council revealed traces of horse DNA had been found in a frozen burger in one of its school kitchens.
Procurement agency Scotland Excel has advised Scottish local authorities to “place a hold on the use of all frozen beef burger products”.
A spokeswoman for the council said: “Following recent developments, Falkirk Council has today taken all burgers off its menus.
“This has been done as a precautionary measure until further information is available from our suppliers.
“We are closely monitoring any new developments and stress that we will continue to maintain high standards in all aspects of our catering.”
