Council performs balancing act to protect services

Residents will be hit in the pocket as Falkirk Council attempts to balance its books.

The local authority has been forced to put up rents and increase a raft of charges, including school meals and parking, in its bid to stay in the black.

As the budget for 2013-14 was agreed this afternoon, the council leader said it had been achieved with no closures and no compulsory redundancies.

Councillor Craig Martin said: “Once again we have been forced to make another £10.7 million of savings for next year.

“But yet again, we have produced a budget that will not be closing any schools, sports centres, libraries or council facilities.”
