Comedy festival is a huge hit - no joking!

It left audiences with tears rolling down their cheeks and clapping their hands in appreciation.
The third annual Funny in Falkirk festival drew to a close on Tuesday night after more than 40 performances across the district.
With several shows selling out well in advance and an even greater range of talent on offer than in previous years, it appears that the event has now established itself as part of the Falkirk social calendar following its launch in 2010.
The Scottish Comedy Agency, in co-operation with Falkirk Delivers and Falkirk Council, worked hard to ensure the event’s third outing was even bigger and better than last year.
Ticket prices were kept low to encourage comedy fans to attend and a range or promotional two-for-one offers were available.
There were some disappointments. Magician Pete Firman had to cancel his much-anticipated show at Falkirk Town Hall due to unforeseen filming commitments and several shows at smaller venues were also cancelled due to poor ticket sales.
But that didn’t prevent Al Murray from delivering a barnstorming performance on Monday evening, as he brought his famous Pub Landlord character to Falkirk to premiere his latest show before a nationwide tour.
On Tuesday, Bristolian - and TV favourite - Mark Watson delivered what might have been a festival highlight at the town hall.
Alastair Mitchell, of Falkirk Delivers, said: “Once again Funny in Falkirk has been the talk of the town. I’m thrilled that it’s been another great success. It promotes the area, encourages people to visit and provides a welcome boost to the local nightime economy.
“Credit must go to the organisers in putting together a line-up that included some real star draws. It’s a great event and one that I look forward next year.”
Gemma Maramis, of organisers The Scottish Comedy Agency, said: “We are delighted by this year’s fantastically successful Funny In Falkirk. The people of Falkirk and the surrounding district really took the festival to heart and showed their support and love for live and cinema comedy.
“We wish to thank all patrons, partners, venues and businesses involved in the festival. The festival has grown year on year and early figures show we are still surpassing expectations. This year’s was heralded as an outstanding programme. This was achievable on the past two festivals strength and Funny in falkirk has now become a highlight in the festival calender for acts to showcase their fantastic festival shows - bringing the best of the best to falkirks door step. We look forward to 2013 already.”
