Bin problems rumble on across Falkirk

Residents in Falkirk faced more confusion this week

The chaos surrounding Falkirk’s bin collections continued this week as residents still haven’t got the right schedules for updated pick-ups.

Households were left in panic last week after thousands didn’t get the new calendars showing changes to the days bins would be picked up.

Council sources say the contractor it employed to deliver the leaflets made mistakes which resulted in the shambles that has carried on into this week’s collections.

Residents posting on our Facebook were once again left frustrated at the mix-up.

Robert Duff said: “The last time the green wheelie bins were empted in Cockburn Street, Falirk was three weeks ago. I have once again just returned from the recycling plant near Bonnybridge after leaving yet again another black pastic bag of domestic rubbish.

“My question is will the council reimburse me for the high price of car fuel I am using due to their mistakes. Plus, there has been no calendars delivered in Cockburn Street where the bins are overflowing and smelling.”

Dawn Paris Gillies added: “We got a calendar few weeks ago saying bins to get emptied on a Wednesday from the 14th. Our day was a Friday, but they didn’t get emptied and got emptied on the Friday as normal.

“Who knows for this week. I live at top of Hallglen and it seems everyone has been given different days.”

The council said some issues were to be expected early on and has apologised to residents over the confusion.

A spokesman said: “In changing the day for around one third of our households there were always going to be some teething troubles.

“There has been a number of residents who have expressed some confusion around collection days we have issued new leaflets to these areas.

“This is the second week of the new service and the number of reported issues has significantly reduced from the first week and we thank the public for their patience while we implement the new arrangements.”

If you still don’t have an updated collection calendar, go to www.falkirk.gov.uk/postcode and enter your postcode to find out the dates for your area.
