Avonbridge gardener has done it again
Malvina Dwyer and her award winning garden
Blooming marvellous - that’s the verdict on Malvina Dwyer’s well-known garden.
The stunning greenspace in Avonbridge has once again been crowned overall champion in Falkirk Council’s annual garden competition.
Malvina previously took first prize in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
This year she edged out her friend Charles Johnman, whose garden in Dunipace won in 2010 and 2011, into second place.
“It’s a friendly rivalry,” said Malvina (78). “I’m delighted to win again.”
It’s been a tough year for gardeners across the district as the summer has been one of the wettest on record.
“It’s been hard work. I’ve had to add fresh bedding plants at least three times to add a bit of colour,” Malvina said.
“But my begonias have still been quite good. They don’t mind whether it’s wet or dry.”
