A cool £1 million spent to clear snow in Falkirk
Falkirk Council expects to go at least £1 million over budget with its winter service spending.
Despite increasing the budget last year in the wake of the severe
winter of 2009-10 the total bill this year is estimated to reach 2.2
million.
The winter service plan covers priorities for tackling heavy snowfall and a budget for materials, plant and labour to cope with snow or ice.
Following the problems of the Big Freeze last year, the local
authority created a new plan which increased the budget, bought new equipment and boosted the number of grit bins in the area.
Despite the overhaul, residents complained the council was ill-
prepared to cope with the snow and, just months after the revisal,
officers will be looking to further improve the plan.
