A village Christmas tree has lights again after years of being left in the dark.

A tree has been dutifully erected at Laurieston Cross every year but for the past five there have been no lights on it.

Falkirk Council stopped putting them up in Laurieston and other areas because they were repeatedly targeted by vandals.

However, after The Falkirk Herald highlighted the fact the village tree was now the only one without lights, the tree is aglow.

Jane Fletcher, a leader with 1st Laurieston Rainbows, Brownies and Guides said: “I can’t thank the Herald enough for bringing it to the council’s attention.”

Lightways owner Jim Marshall and Perfect Touch Florists offered to help. But the local authority managed to locate decorations and made sure they were up in time for Christmas.
