Probus Club

On September 30, 26 members of the Larbert & Stenhousemuir Probus Club welcomed Iain Robertson who had spoken a few years ago on Renewable Energy. He was able to update the members on the current political and financial developments affecting the targets seeking to be achieved by the government as it strives to meet and exceed EU aims in the next decade. Whilst wind turbines such as those currently being constructed at Todhill Farm, Larbert would be a mainstay in ‘renewables’ for some time, under-sea tide turbines would in due course also take a place in the varied toolkit of renewables, particularly as tides are more reliable than wind. However, for many years nuclear and coal power stations would be very much be required to ensure continuity of supply. The next meeting at Larbert Bowling Club will be on Tuesday at 2 p.m. when Margaret McLeish will relate her experiences as a ‘Clydesider’ volunteer at the recent Commonwealth Games. Existing and new members will be welcome as bowling, holiday and gardening seasons come to an end! Members might try personal invitations to neighbours or friends to come along and so boost numbers and warmth of the fellowship for speakers. A larger membership also enhances the in-house interest in events and outings.
