President Jean Geddes of the Rotary Club of Vale of Carron welcomed members and guest Rhona Burns to the Plough Hotel. President Elect Jill Dewar introduced Rhona Burns, who has a reputation as a successful fundraiser and generously shared some suggestions. Planning continues for the prize bingo evening in the Railway Club in Grangemouth on May 22. The rain held off for the Charities Day and a large variety of organisations entertained and gave information on their causes throughout a busy day. The Vale of Carron Rotarians demonstrated a Shelter Box and its contents, including a tent, stove, tools -in fact everything a family would need to rebuild lives after a major disaster. Copies of the CD Carron Aid, a collection of Burns’ music performed by members and friends a few years ago, raised a considerable amount in donations from generous folk. Children were entertained by a host of activities including a climbing wall and chute. The Friends of Forth Valley Royal Hospital held their traditional Easter Fayre over three days at the hospital and the Friends would like to extend thanks and appreciation to all who supported it. The home-baking and tombola were both very popular and there was a great response to the Scottish Place Names Quiz. The winners of the raffles were: Whisky and chocolate gift box - Gordon Ellis, large chocolate bunny - Lynn McDonald, And the winners of the quiz were: 1st - Adrienne Smith, Dunblane; 2nd - Malcolm Barnaby, Falkirk; 3rd - Ron & Jean Kirkpatrick, Dunblane.

The service on Sunday is at 11.15 a.m. and will be led by Rev. Bill Thomson. The Young Church (Sunday School) meets during the service and new members are always welcome. Tryst Community Church meets in the Tryst Community Centre on Sunday at 10 a.m. for a Communion Service led by Brian Liddle. The Rotary Club of Larbert is holding its 16th Annual Quad - Am Golf Team Competition on Tuesday, May 13 at Falkirk Golf Club. The competition will consist of the two best net scores per team counting at each hole. There will also be a yellow ball competition where each member of the team plays the yellow ball in rotation. Full details of the event can be found on the club website www.rotary-ribi.org. Entries are invited from teams of four who, for £140, will enjoy a round of golf and a two course meal. Companies also have the opportunity to advertise their business by display boards at each tee and green.
On Sunday, the morning service at 10.30 a.m. will be led by Rev. Melville Crosthwaite and Mrs Isabelle McMillan, Reader in Training. The Young Church meet in the halls before the service and crèche is held in the Session Room. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be served in the hall after the service and the Traidcraft Stall will also be there. On Tuesday, the Prayer Group meets in the Session Room at 6.30 p.m. The Kirk Session meet in the Small Hall at the earlier time of 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Stenhousemuir Salvation Army Community Church welcome all. Meetings are as follows: Cornerstone Full Gospel Church Sunday morning worship from 10.30 a.m. to noon. Pastor Alex Paton will lead the service. Sunday Worship with the Salvation Army from 2.30-3.30 p.m. with a cup of tea before the meeting led by Major John McCaffrey. The Lodge hosted the Reigning Masters degree on April 25. The Grand Master Mason was in attendance along with the Provincial Grand Master and many other brethren from Stirlingshire lodges and some from outwith the Province. They witnessed a fine Entered Apprentice degree conferred on one candidate. This was followed by a very entertaining harmony with good food, good company and some talented singers. The Lodge is now in summer recess but will confer two degrees during the summer, details to follow.
Everyone is warmly welcome to the services this Sunday at Carrongrange School at 10.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. During the morning service Grace Kids, for those of primary school age, meet. After the morning service there will be an informal meeting to answer questions folk may have regarding future membership. St Bernadette’s Primary School, Edward Avenue, Stenhousemuir are holding a summer fayre on Saturday, May 31 from noon until 3 p.m. Last year’s fayre was a huge success so we decided to have another this year. There will be lots of fun for all the family. This event will be open to staff, pupils and the wider local community. The Dobbie Hall car boot sale takes place every Wednesday from 8.30 a.m. until noon and pitches cost £6 for one and £9 for two. A meeting of the above takes place every Friday in Larbert Old Church Hall at 8 p.m. The meetings allow people to share experiences and gain advice on coping with family members suffering from alcoholism. Larbert East Playgroup has vacancies for new members. The playgroup is for children of two years six months and upwards and runs on Tuesday through to Friday at Larbert East Church from 9.20-11 a.m. There is also a Monday Twos club from 9.30-11 a.m. and a toddlers group goes ahead on a Wednesday from 9.30-11 a.m. Anyone interested in joining any of these groups will be welcomed at the church at the above times.
The club meets in the games hall at Larbert High School every Monday between 8.15-9 p.m.
Toddlers, Tots and Twos at Larbert Pentecostal Church in Broomage Avenue continues every Thursday. The facility is for 0-3 year olds and has a dedicated baby corner.
