President Jill Dewar welcomed Rotary Club of Vale of Carron members and guests Sarah Tough, Alistair Neilson, Janice Neilson and David Anderson to the weekly meeting at the Plough Hotel, Stenhousemuir. After a meal Rotarian Ken Drummond PHF introduced David, assistant manager with Grangemouth firm Drummond Laurie Chartered Accountants. We learned a little of this new business before hearing about David’s interest in Body Language, non-verbal communication where thoughts and feelings are expressed by physical behaviours such as facial expressions, body posture, gestures, eye movement, touch and the use of space. We are delighted to see visitors on Wednesdays. The next meeting of Larbert, Stenhousemuir & Torwood Community Council will take place on Monday, March 30 at 7.15 p.m. in the Halls of Larbert Old Church. The community council is also holding two open public meetings in the Dobbie Hall to gather local views and priorities on how to use the Todhill wind farm community benefit fund. Refreshments will be provided and entertainment provided by local primary school choirs.
Services this coming Sunday in Carrongrange School are at 10.30 a.m. and also at 6 p.m. Grace Kids also meet at 10.30 a.m. The weekly prayer meeting will be held this Thursday at 7.45 p.m. in the Dawson Mission. All are warmly invited to these services.

Tryst Community Church will meet in Tryst Community Education Centre, Park Drive, Stenhousemuir, on Sunday at 10 a.m. for Worship and Bible Teaching. The Bible Teaching will be the concluding study in John’s Gospel, will be led by Peter Henderson and will be followed by tea/coffee. Prayer Time on Tuesday will be at 8.15 p.m. in the centre. The Dobbie Hall car boot sale takes place every Wednesday from 8.30 a.m. till noon and pitches cost £6 for one and £9 for two. Larbert East Playgroup has vacancies for new members. The playgroup is for children of two years six months and upwards and runs on Tuesday through to Friday at Larbert East Church from 9.20-11 a.m. There is also a Monday Twos club from 9.30-11 a.m. and a Toddlers Group goes ahead on a Wednesday from 9.30-11 a.m. Anyone interested in joining any of these groups will be welcomed at the church at the above times.
The club meets in the games hall at Larbert High School every Monday from 8.15-9 p.m.
Toddlers, Tots and Twos meets at Larbert Pentecostal Church in Broomage Avenue every Thursday. The facility is for 0-3 year olds and has a dedicated baby corner. Every Sunday at 3 p.m. a domino competition goes ahead when the winner takes home a steak pie and runner-up a quarter bottle of spirits. Entry is £1 and monies raised go to charity. Tonight (Thursday) the quiz goes on as usual in the lounge 8 p.m. Entry is £1 and winning team takes all. The Play Your Cards Right game also features on the same evening.
Sweet Harmony Barbershop Chorus meets for practice every Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. in Larbert East Church Hall (Kirk Wynd) when new members will be made most welcome. Dance/cabaret evenings continue on Friday, April 10, when Gold Retro provides the music. Tickets are £5 and can be booked at the bar. Stenhousemuir F.C. Community Development Director, Jamie Kirk, would be delighted to hear from anyone over 50 wishing to enjoy a new initiative at the club. Walking Football goes ahead at Ochilview every Monday morning at 10.a.m. and given running with the ball is out of bounds it is ideal for those who feel they would benefit from a gentler form of the game as well as enjoying the social aspect. Currently celebrating its 150th birthday, Stenhousemuir Bowling Club would be delighted to welcome new members at the Church Street green and forms are available at the bar. The entry fee has been reduced to half price at the current time. Another cabaret takes place this Saturday, March 28, when a big star of the club scene, David John, will take the stage following the bingo around 9 p.m. David Taylor fills the gaps with his disco and tickets, priced £4, can be booked at the bar.
Although there are no places currently available in the 62nd Larbert Scout Group’s beaver colony and cub pack, the group is able to accept a few younger scouts (aged 10 years six months to 12). Cornerstone Full Gospel Church meet on Sunday from 10.30 a.m. to noon run by Pastor Alex Paton. From 2.30-3.30 p.m. is Sunday Worship led by Major John McCaffrey. The service on Palm Sunday is at 11.15 a.m. and will be led by Rev. Bill Thomson and members of the Falkirk Presbytery, marking their visit to our Parish. The Young Church (Sunday School) meet during the service and new members are always welcome. The Holy Week services all begin at 7.30 p.m. and are: Monday - Rev. Melville Crosthwaite of Larbert East Parish Church; Wednesday - Stenhouse & Carron’s Young Church; Thursday - Maundy Thursday Communion Service in the hall with Rev. Bill Thomson of Stenhouse & Carron Parish Church; Good Friday - Rev. Andrew Moore of Bothkennar and Carronshore Church. There will be no Wednesday Welcome during Holy Week.

On Palm Sunday, the morning service is at 10.30 a.m. and will be led by Rev. Melville Crosthwaite and Ms Anne White, OLM Student in Training. The Young Church will meet in the halls before the service and crèche is held in the Session Room. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be served in the hall afterwards and the Traidcraft Stall will also be there. On Monday, the Banner and Craft Group meet in the Session Room at 2.30 p.m. The Prayer Group meet on Tuesday in the session room at 6.30 p.m. On Thursday, a sale of children’s clothes is held in the Upper Room from 9.15-10.45 a.m. and Weekday Worship is held in the church at 11.15 a.m. This is a short service and everyone is welcome.
At Larbert Bowling Club on St Patrick’s Day, the 30 members of the Larbert & Stenhousemuir Probus Club were welcomed by Vice President Harry Johnston in the absence of President Tom Meikle. A ‘Today in History’ feature preceded the main speaker Douglas Cooper, an amateur astronomer and photographer whose advised how best to watch the solar eclipse. The summer trip on the Union Canal was intimated for Tuesday, April 28. Names were taken and others interested should sign up at the next meeting on March 31 when the speaker will be from the RNLI.

Lively walks in Larbert take place every Tuesday, 10.30 a.m., leave from FVRH, where there is a choice of an hour walk, or a slower 30 minute walk both finishing in the cafe afterwards. Also a Friday 10.30 a.m. walk, leaving from Stenhousemuir shopping centre, again you can join a slower 30minute walk or brisker.
