President Jean Geddes welcomed members and guest District 1020 Assistant Governor Ken Robertson to the Annual Club Assembly in the Plough Hotel, Stenhousemuir. After some items of general business it was confirmed that the monies taken at the prize bingo event would be distributed to Carrongrange School (£350) and the Falkirk branch of The Samaritans (£350) with the balance going to Vale of Carron’s Community Service Fund for disbursement to good causes. President Elect Jill outlined her plans for the coming Rotary year which starts in July. There followed outlines of plans from the incoming convenors for the year. The club is looking forward to an exciting, enjoyable 12 months ‘Lighting up and lightening up Rotary’. The meeting closed with Ken Robertson congratulating Vale of Carron on a full and ambitious planned year ahead. On Saturday Carronshore Primary School quiz team took part in the finals of the District 1020 School Quiz in Carluke, finishing a creditable third out of eight teams in a close run contest. Larbert West Toddlers and Twos Group is for 0-5 years and has a dedicated baby corner. It runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9.30-11.15 a.m. during term time, at Larbert West Church, Main Street, Larbert. Lodge Carron 139 Brethren please note the Lodge Barns O’ Clyde 1018 visit to confer the Master Mason degree on Thursday, June 12. There is a bus organised, if anyone wishes to travel, please be at the Lodge for 6.30 p.m. or contact the secretary.
The Dobbie Hall car boot sale takes place every Wednesday from 8.30 a.m. to noon and pitches cost £6 for one and £9 for two. Tables are available for anyone wishing to make some money from unwanted items and all money raised benefits the Hall Trust. For hall and pitch bookings call (01324) 570450.
A meeting of the above takes place every Friday in Larbert Old Church Hall at 8 p.m. The meetings allow people to share experiences and gain advice on coping with family members suffering from alcoholism. Larbert East Playgroup has vacancies for new members. The playgroup is for children of two years six months and upwards and runs on Tuesday through to Friday at Larbert East Church from 9.20-11 a.m. There is also a Monday Twos club from 9.30-11 a.m. and a Toddlers Group goes ahead on a Wednesday from 9.30-11 a.m. Anyone interested in joining any of these groups will be welcomed at the church at the above times.
The club meets in the games hall at Larbert High School every Monday between 8.15-9 p.m.
Toddlers, Tots and Twos meets at Larbert Pentecostal Church in Broomage Avenue every Thursday. The facility is for 0-3 year olds and has a dedicated baby corner. The service on Sunday is at 11.15 a.m. and will be led by Rev. Bill Thomson. The Young Church (Sunday School) meets during the service and new members are always welcome.
President Martin Nicol welcomed members and Rotarian visitors Morris Easton from Linlithgow Grange and Ian Wall from Grangemouth to last Wednesday’s meeting at Carmuirs Golf Club. After dinner, local author, Irene Mackay gave a presentation in which she described how through her work, she explains dementia to young children. Irene has taken her latest publication, ‘The Forgetful Elephant’ around local nurseries and primary schools and has received a very positive reaction from the children who are keen to learn about and understand this condition that can often affect their older relatives. After a very informative and often emotional talk, Allan French gave the vote of thanks. Members were then advised that there are only a few tickets left for the Abba Tribute night on Saturday, June 14 in the Dobbie Hall, Larbert at 7.30 p.m. The concert will feature the UK’s leading Abba tribute band, Swede Dreamz, and tickets are priced at £12 each. This is a bring your own bottle event. Tickets are available from the Falkirk Steeple Box office, Sisman’s newsagents, Stenhousemuir, The Quick Stop shop in Main Street, Larbert, and from Larbert Rotarians. The monies raised will be in aid of Strathcarron Hospice. Everyone is warmly welcome to the services on Sunday in Carrongrange School at 10.30 a.m, and 6 p.m. The morning service will include the prizegiving for Grace Kids. The prayer meeting will be held in the Dawson Mission on Thursday at 7.45 p.m. The next holiday club planning meeting will be on Saturday, June 14 at the Dawson Mission.
Burnhead Bowling Club is running a cabaret on Saturday, June 21, when top vocalist Alan Parker entertains members and friends. Tickets, priced £5, are available from committee members or enquire at the bar.
The Saturday Group meet on June 14 in Torwood Garden Centre at noon for a cup of tea and a blether. Anyone looking for a bit of company is welcome to join them. On Sunday The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated at the services at 10.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. both conducted by Rev. Dr Campbell Campbell-Jack. In the morning there are creche and Sunday Club facilities for all children, and there will be refreshments and a time of fellowship in the hall after the service. All welcome to either service. On Sunday, the morning service is at 10.30 a.m. led by Rev. Melville Crosthwaite. At the end of the service we will celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism. The Young Church meet in the halls before the service and crèche is held in the Session Room. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be available in the hall after the service and the Traidcraft Stall will also be there. On Wednesday, the Kirk Session meets in the small hall at 7.15 p.m.

Our lively walks in Larbert are full of friendly faces, who enjoy the scenery on serveral different routes around this area. Every Tuesday, 10.30 a.m. we leave from FVRH, where there is a choice of an hour walk, or a slower walk (average 30 minutes) both finishing in the cafe afterwords. Also a Friday 10.30 a.m. walk, leaving from Stenhousemuir shopping centre, again you can join a slower 30 minute (average) walk or brisker one hour walk, where you can meet everyone in the cafe after your walk.
