The Dobbie Hall car boot sale takes place every Wednesday from 8.30 a.m. till noon and pitches cost £6 for one and £9 for two. Larbert East Playgroup has vacancies for new members. The Playgroup is for children of two years, six months and upwards and runs on Tuesday through to Friday at Larbert East Church from 9.20-11 a.m. There is also a Monday Twos club from 9.30-11 a.m. and a Toddlers Group goes ahead on a Wednesday from 9.30-11 a.m. Anyone interested in joining any of these groups will be welcomed at the church at the above times.
The club meets in the games hall at Larbert High School every Monday between 8.15-9 p.m.
Toddler, Tots and Twos meets at Larbert Pentecostal Church in Broomage Avenue every Thursday. The facility is for 0-3 year olds and has a dedicated baby corner. Stenhousemuir Bowling Club is holding a fund raising Race Night on Friday, February 20, at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are £3 and a buffet is included. Those wishing to purchase horses, priced £5, and tickets can do so at the bar. The AGM will be held on Monday, February 16, at 7 p.m. prompt. The club would be delighted to welcome new members at the Church Street green and forms are available at the bar. The entry fee has been reduced to half price at the current time.

Stenhousemuir F.C. is holding a quiz night in the Ormond Suite at the Ochilview stand on Friday, February 6, when doors open at 7 p.m. Entry is £20 for teams of four, but lesser numbers can go along and link up with others to form a team. The prize is £100 and various prizes are to be won in a raffle midway through the evening when sandwiches will also be available. During the morning service last Sunday, Finlay Robert Hanlon and Jack William Hanlon, twin sons of Bob and Emma Hanlon were welcomed into the family of the Church through Holy Baptism. On Sunday, the morning service is at 10.30 a.m. led by Rev. Melville Crosthwaite and Mrs Anne White. The Young Church meets in the halls before the service and crèche is held in the Session Room. Afterwards, tea/coffee and biscuits will be available in the hall and the Traidcraft Stall will also be there. On Monday, the Banner Group meet in the Session Room at 2.30 p.m. All welcome. The Lodge held the first meeting in 2015 when the fellow craft degree was conferred on one candidate on Wednesday, January 14. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 28 and will be an Entered Apprentice degree. The Lodge will tyle at 7.30 p.m.

President Ronnie Laing welcomed members to last Wednesday’s meeting at Carmuirs Golf Club. Preparations were made to provide support to the two Larbert High School pupils, Murphy Chappell and Callum Robertson, the club has sponsored to take part in the Rotary Young Chef competition. They will take part in the district final to be held on January 31. After dinner, Grant Alexander introduced Past President Martin Nicol who regaled his audience with the tales of Eddie Chapman. After posing the question of whether Chapman was a hero or villain, Martin told the story of Chapman’s life that saw him serve as a soldier, serve time in prison, meet Hitler and inherit huge amounts of money. Andrew Gillespie gave the vote of thanks.
The vice president welcomed everyone to the meeting on January 13 and welcomed the speaker for the afternoon, Geoff Bailey, who gave a very interesting presentation entitled ‘The Tram System on the Circular Route’ which was enjoyed by everyone. Next meeting is in the Age Concern Hall on Tuesday, January 27 at 2.30 p.m. and is a talk on the Maggie’s Centre.

The Rotary Club of Vale of Carron met on Wednesday evening upstairs at the Plough Hotel, Stenhousemuir. After an enjoyable meal President Jill Dewar welcomed members and guest Rotarian Ian Rule PHF, a past district governor and trustee of Rotary Jaipur Limbs. Ian was able to tell us about the life-changing work carried out at the Bangalore Mega Limb Camp 2014. We examined demonstration feet and legs as well as a mechanical hand. From drainpipes and other basic materials, skilled doctors, technicians and volunteers made well-fitting limbs giving mobility and a means to earn a living at no cost to the recipient. Following some questioning past president Jean Geddes proposed the vote of thanks for a moving and enlightening presentation. Services this coming Sunday in Carrongrange School are at 10.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. This is our annual Stewardship Sunday when we will be giving information regarding the church financial status. A drop in café is open every Sunday 12.30-2.30 p.m. at The Maples, 33 Johnston Avenue, Stenhousemuir for those affected by dementia and their carers. It’s a friendly, informal group and gives everyone the opportunity to meet others and have a chat over a cuppa. All welcome.
