High winds hit Falkirk

Emergency services warned people not to travel on Thursday as winds of up to 100 mph battered Falkirk.

The Met Office issued its highest warning - a red alert - as schools in the area shut down and the Forth Bridge was closed amid grave safety concerns.

Flooding and falling tree branches were reported throughout the district and a section of Falkirk High Street had to be cordoned off by police as the wind hit town centre signs causing structural damage to the side of British Home Stores.
