Duke of Edinburgh Group (Bainsford)

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards (DofE) offer young people between the ages of 14 and 19 the chance to enhance their skills in wide variety of areas.

The group which covers Bainsford, Langlees and Carron has been up and running for 18 months and has around 15 regular members.

They take part in activities in bronze, silver and gold levels which can take up to a year-and-a-half to do in four different sectors – volunteering, skills, physical activity and expedition.

Diane Campbell who runs the group said: “Doing the Duke of Edinburgh Awards helps young people show employers they can develop team skills, put in time commitments and do things off their own back which shows initiative.

“They do a host of things like first aid, cooking, camping and expedition training. It’s great fun.

“Two of the young people we have left school with little qualifications but now have jobs thanks to the efforts they put in here.”
