Falkirk District Wargames Club
If you think playing with toy soldiers is for schoolboys, then think again.
The dedicated members of Falkirk District Wargames Club meet every week in Grangemouth to recreate famous battles using small figures on replica model landscapes identical to the ones the historical ones took place on.
The group, which started in 1997, has between 30 and 40 members ranging in ages from teens to 60s from across the central belt.
The members line their troops up against each other using various sets of rules to outwit the opponent.
Figures and games are based on different types of conflicts from Napoleonic and American Civil War to fantasy and sci-fi like Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who and Warhammer.
Most, if not all members, have a great knowledge and interest in history which they are happy to share with new members.
Organiser Kenny Thomson said: “It’s a great hobby and wargamimg has a big social aspect. Everyone has a good laugh and doesn’t take it too seriously.
“We put on games at most of the Scottish and north of England shows and have a big one coming up in Graeme High School on May 11.”
