Contact The Elderly

A new group to help older people feel part of society is now up and running in Falkirk.

National charity Contact the Elderly now has a group operating in the area after joining forces with Abbeyfield Scotland to support older people in challenging times.

The charity is solely dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation amongst older people and the new group, which meets in Falkirk’s Abbeyfield House in Ladysmill, is driving forward activities.

Forth Valley area manager Carolynn Malone said: “This ethos directly links to Abbeyfield Scotland values.

“The aim of both Abbeyfield Scotland and Contact the Elderly is to work together in partnership by organising monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of volunteers and groups of older people.

“Abbeyfield House in Falkirk is the first house to actively participate with the Forth Valley group.”

For the free tea parties each person is collected from their home by a volunteer driver and taken to a volunteer host’s home for the afternoon.

The parties are a lifeline of friendship for older people who have little or no contact with family.
