Women in Bainsford and Langlees are empowering themselves and their communities through an active parents’ group.
Families Together has been around for the last 18 months and used to be the Yummy Mummies group, an outlet for parents with young children. There are around a dozen members and fathers are also welcome to attend.
The group provides a creche for kids while the mums organise activities and discuss life in general over a cuppa.
Through the group mums benefit from some respite from busy lives, support from peers, learning new skills and having adult company and laughs for a couple of hours.
Among the activities the group has organised for local families include cooking workshops, fundraising, trips to places like the Science Centre in Glasgow, summer events and BBQs. Asda and Tesco are big supporters of events.
The group also work alongside other groups including Toddle Tots and were part of a trivia trail and ‘Gruffalo’ event for Literacy Week. The mums are currently busy plotting to build an edible garden to grow vegetables and put on a panto. New members welcome.
