Four sailors have been killed and seven are missing after a vessel which sailed from Grangemouth was involved in a collision.

Cyprus-registered container ship, the Corvus J, was on its way from the Port of Grangemouth to the Belgian Port of Antwerp, when the collision happened with the Baltic Ace from Zeebrugge off the coast of Belgium just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Thirteen crew members of the Baltic Ace have been rescued, but seven are still missing in freezing waters.

Netherlands Coastguard stated the chance of finding anyone alive was “virtually zero”.

The Corvus J is said to be badly damaged but not in danger of sinking and all 12 crew members are still on board.
