Angry residents called on Falkirk Council to terminate its recyling contract with the firm at the centre of a fly infestation row.

Scores of householders attended a packed public meeting organised by local councillor Joan Paterson on Thursday night in the town’s Oswald Avenue Day Centre. During the meeting representatives from Oran Environmental Solutions, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and Falkirk Council heard about the problems the flies have been causing them for the last three years.

Falkirk Council was repeatedly urged to terminate their contract with Oran, which is due to come up for renewal in the New Year and during one particularly heated exchange a resident accused Oran, SEPA and Falkirk Council of “total incompetence” in their handling of the problem.
