Five years have passed since a party of Scouts from Forth Valley undertook valuable building work in a remote area of Namibia and last week their leader, Sandy Jack, offered an upbeat update of the Scouts’ enduring legacy to members of the Rotary Club of Grangemouth. Sandy, a past president of the club which donated £1500 towards the project, was thanked on the call of Andy Finlayson. President Jim Stirling was in the chair.
Walks leave from the Community Education Unit, Grangemouth Sports complex every Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. If you or someone you know is having problems with their balance come along to our Wednesday walk where you will be shown mobility, strength and balance exercises (Otago). Zetland Parish Church: Sunday’s Service was conducted by Woody Speirs, our Session Clerk. The Summer Sunday Club will have its last session next Sunday. Sunday School will resume on Sunday, August 24 and all children from age three years are welcome to come along. The Social and Fundraising Committee has organised a Strawberry Tea on Saturday, August 23, from 2-4 p.m. in the church hall. Tickets, priced £3, are available from committee members. Donations of home baking would be appreciated and can be brought to the hall on the day from 12.30 p.m. onwards. Please note that the September Communion Services will be held on September 14, and not as listed on the church calendar. Morning Worship next Sunday will be the last of our early Summer Services at 10.30 a.m., and worship will be conducted by Rev. Neil Barclay. Tea and coffee will be served after the service but there will be no Vestry Hour consultation.
The service on Sunday, August 17 will be conducted by Monica McDonald at 11 a.m. The Summer Walking Group is on every Tuesday. All walks leave from KHR car park at 6.30 p.m. The walk on August 19, is to the Carron Dam. On Friday, September 12 there will be a Big Sing in the Kirk with guests Brightons Praise Group. This will be in aid of our Jubilee Project for Nepal and tickets are £2.50 (children free). You can also become involved by suggesting a favourite hymn to be included in the programme. Tickets and suggestion list are available in the Kirk vestibule.
The enrolment for the new session of the 1st Grangemouth Boys’ Brigade Company Anchor Boys’, Primary 1 (Aged 4) to Primary 3 and Junior Section Primary 4 to Primary 6 will take place on Thursday, August 21 at 7 p.m. All previous members and any new members in the above age groups interested in joining are invited to come along to the Abbotsgrange Church Hall, Abbots Road, Grangemouth, FK3 8JP.
On Sunday, August 17, the morning service takes place at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ron Thomson from Falkirk will be the speaker. The evening service is at 6.30 p.m. and welcomes speaker Mr Craig Beattie from Niddrie Community Church, in Edinburgh. All welcome.
The Blythswood Care van will be in the Union Road Carpark on Wednesday, August 20, from 2.15 - 3 p.m. to collect any items of clothing etc for distribution in Eastern Europe.
