The search is now on for a driver who reportedly mounted the pavement to hit a 20-year-old man and then reverse over him.

The incident, which is being treated as attempted murder, happened at 4.30 a.m. on Saturday in Tweed Street, Grangemouth.

Steven Ballantyne was heading back home when he was struck by the vehicle and sustained fractures to both his legs.

Police are now investigating the possibility the attack was linked to an incident at a nearby McDonald’s restaurant where Steven works.

It is understood he stopped there on his way home from a night out in Falkirk and reported a car for shining a laser pen at the building.

A Police spokeswoman said: “Enquiries are ongoing but police are treating this as attempted murder. Anyone who has information that can help with enquiries should contact Police Scotland on 101.”
