Police are appealing for information after a pipe was damaged and caused a gas leak.

The incident occurred around 7.30 p.m. on Saturday in Castle Court, Bankside Industrial Estate, Falkirk.

A Central Scotland Police spokeswoman said: “Police on routine patrol discovered the damage when they heard a hissing noise and went to investigate. They discovered a large two inch gas pipe had been ruptured and the fire service and Transco were alerted.

“A cordon was also put in place and emergency personnel were at the scene for several hours.

“This was an extremely dangerous and foolish act. There was a serious risk that this could have resulted in an explosion had there been a spark in the area and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”
