Forty firefighters tackle Slamannan scrubland blaze

Firefighters have extinguised a major scrubland blaze in Slamannan that raged for several hours.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident near Shielknowes Farm on the A803 in Slamannan at 12.15 p.m.

An appliance from Slamannan was initially dispatched, however additional resources were immediately requested by the incident commander due to the extent of the fire, which was assisted by strong winds had spread to an area of forestry.

A further five appliances from Cumbernauld, Falkirk, Larbert and Denny, along with a water carrier from Larbert and an all-terrain vehicle from Dunblane were mobilised, with around 40 crew in attendance,

Group manager Martin Brandrick, who was in charge of the incident said: ‘‘Firefighters were working in extremely arduous conditions in their attempt to bring this blaze, involving an area of approximately 800m x 300m, under control using water jets and grass beaters.’’

A fire service spokesman confirmed that the blaze was eventually extinguised early in the evening.
