Campbell Christie, former general secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress and a past chairman of Falkirk FC, has died at the age of 74.
Mr Christie, who died in Strathcarron Hospice on Friday, served as STUC secretary from 1986 to 1998 and STUC’s current general secretary Grahame Smith said he was a tremendous ambassador for the trade union movement and for Scotland.
Awarded a CBE in 1997, Mr Christie was a full-time official for the National Union of Civil and Public Servants before he became a leading figure in the TUC.
During his time as chairman of Falkirk FC during the first decade of the 21st century, the team enjoyed promotion success and an appearance in the 2009 Scottish Cup final against Rangers.
First Minister Alex Salmond said: “Scotland has lost a giant of the trade union movement and of public life.”
