A fire in a block of flats in the early hours of this morning has led to the closure of the A803 in Bonnybridge to traffic.

Firefighters were called out at 1.21 a.m. to deal with the blaze, which spread between two flats on the first floor of the building in Main Street, near the Jet service station.

All residents managed to exit the building - although a 53-year-old male resident had to jump from a first floor window to escape. He was subsequently taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for treatment for minor injuries.

Three appliances from Denny and Larbert fire stations were called out and remain at the scene this morning.

A further three appliances, a water carrier and an aerial ladder were also called out.

Building inspectors from Falkirk Council are expected to assess the structural damage to the block of flats.

Police Scotland said that the section of the A803 through Main Street is likely to be closed to traffic for the remainder of the day. Diversions are in place.

A spokesman added that there were no suspicious circumstances regarding the outbreak of the fire.
