Falkirk MP Eric Joyce will appear in court next week after being charged with assault and criminal damage.
The 54-year-old is alleged to have carried out the offences during an incident at a convenience store in London’s Camden on October 17.
He “clashed” with a teenager in the shop and later claimed on his website that he asked for the police to be called after he “detained a youth”.
The former Labour MP, who is now an independent, is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 30.
The Metropolitan Police said the politician has been charged with two counts of common assault and one count of criminal damage.
